I’ve been intending to make the stacking rings from an old Simply Sewing Magazine for quite a long time for my niece, and I figure that it really is now or never or she’ll become too old for them!
Fortunately, it seems to be a good stash busting project. The rings don’t take up as much fabric as I expected, and I’m managing to find pieces in my stash which seem acceptable and colourful enough.
The pattern doesn’t come with the templates for the rings, but I had picked up a circle cutter from The Works last year just for this purpose. I found it worked well overall, but was tricky to use to make the inner circles as they are so small.
So far I have made the smallest ring, as it took a while to make all of the templates. I have added a strip of lace around the side of this one for more texture and there’s a small rattler I picked up from Tactile Treasures last September inside as well so it will make a noise. I plan to put different sounding rattlers in a couple of others as well.
What a lovely idea !
